SLC 2009 Fall Season Review
KINGSTON, Ont. (December 18, 2009) – With 2010 quickly approaching, St. Lawrence College takes a look back at what was, in St. Lawrence College (SLC) Varsity Athletics as a member of the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) and the Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) for the fall term of 2009.

KINGSTON, Ont. (December 18, 2009) – With 2010 quickly approaching, St. Lawrence College takes a look back at what was, in St. Lawrence College (SLC) Varsity Athletics as a member of the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) and the Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) for the fall term of 2009. 

Men's Cross Country – Brockville, Cornwall, Kingston Campuses: St. Lawrence College saw some great performances this season from all three campuses. Leading the way was Kingston Campuses' #Julian Rhebergen# of Brighton, Ont., who was the lone male representative at the CCAA Championships this season. Rhebergen showed true consistency finishing in the top 10 in all of his races leading up to the CCAA Championships. His best showing was in the very first meet (St. Lawrence Invitational) finishing in fourth with a time of 27 minutes and 28.3 seconds. Rhebergen went on to record another fourth place finish in the Fleming Invitational along with a sixth, and seventh place before finishing fifth at the OCAA to qualify for the CCAA and was selected to the 2009 All- Ontario Team.

For the Brockville campus #James Vanhorn# of Kingston, Ont., had a respectable season finishing atop his team at the OCAA finishing with a time of 42:55.0 and picked up a 31st place result in the St. Lawrence Invitational. #Willy Primeau# of Brockville, Ont., was awarded the OCAA 'Fair Play Award' as he was the oldest competitor to compete this season and had consistent performances throughout 2009.

Cornwall also had some productive runners in 2009, #Cameron Barry# was the top runner for the Sharks at the OCAA Championships running a time of 54:50.2 and finished in the top 40 at the St. Lawrence Invitational. 


Women's Cross Country – Brockville, Cornwall, Kingston Campuses: Brockville Campuses' #Dawn Martin# of Perth, Ont., represented SLC at the 2009 CCAA Championships after she returned from injury to finish fourth at the OCAA Championships running in a time of 19:55.1. Prior to the event Martin ran in one race and collected a sixth place finish at the Fleming Invitational.

For the Cornwall Campus they had a solid season from #Melanie Sanders# of Berwick, Ont. Sanders finished in 15th place at the St. Lawrence Invitational and recorded at top 35 placing in Peterborough, Ont., at the Fleming Invitational and followed that with a top 40 at the OCAA championships running in a time of 22:47.8.

Kingston Campuses saw great running from #Richelle Moore# of Napanee, Ont. Moore started the season strong finishing in fourth at the St. Lawrence Invitational as well as a seventh and 11th place result before the OCAA Championship. Moore narrowly missed advancing to the National Championship finishing in 11th position with a time of 20:43.3. 


Men's Golf- Brockville, Cornwall, Kingston, Campuses:
The 2009 season for men's golf culminated at the OCAA Championships at the Lochness Links Golf Course in Niagara, Ont. The top individual for SLC was from the Cornwall Campus in #Spencer Huntington# who finished tied for 45th shooting rounds of 85,80,87. The Top performer from Kingston Campus was #Peter Jacob# who finished T49 shooting rounds of 83,79,92. Overall the Vikings captured the Division II silver medal. 


Men's Soccer – Kingston Campus: #Jared Savory# of Kingston, Ont., led all SLC Vikings in scoring finishing the season with six goals in 12 games. Savory, along with teammate #Brendan Saunders# of Berwick, Ont., were awarded OCAA league all-stars. The Vikings finished the regular season with a record of 2-9-1 and missed the play-offs. Overall the Vikings finished fifth in the OCAA East Division recorded a team total 14 goals for the second straight season. 


Women's Soccer- Kingston Campus: The women's soccer team struggled this season finishing winless in 2009 with a record of 0-12-0. #Shannon Maguire# of Kingston, Ont., was announced as a league all-star along with #Maureen McLaren# of Sydenham, Ont. Maguire finished with a team high two goals. It was the first season in over five years that the Vikings were held without a victory. 


Men's Rugby – Kingston Campus: The defending OCAA Division II champion Vikings could not successfully defend their title in 2009 as they were eliminated from contention in the final game of the regular season against the eventual champion Loyalist Lancers. The Vikings got off to a rough start but battled back winning two of their final three games. Their overall record was 2-4 and saw Kingston natives #Joshua Turcotte# and #Dylan Bibby# be announced as league all-stars. Leading scorer for the Vikings was #Brad Charlton# of Cannifton, Ont., who finished with 19 points (Five conversions and three penalty kicks). #Joey Banfield# of Kingston, Ont., led the team in tries record a pair.
