KINGSTON, Ont. (February 9, 2010) - This past weekend St. Lawrence College (SLC) Athletics held a successful inaugural outdoor flag-football tournament called "Snow Bowl".

With their primary event sponsor Boston Pizza, SLC invited six teams, (over 70 SLC students) to partake in the day's festivities, and despite the frigid weather, everyone enjoyed themselves.

The tournament consisted of the six teams being split into two divisions in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each division received a bye to the semi-finals, while the remaining four teams played a cross-over wild-card game.

The winners faced-off against the divisional leaders to determine the championship game. The finals featured "Team Yellow" and "Team Green", who both began in Division B.

"Team Green" jumped out to an early 14-0 lead but "Team Yellow" cut the lead to seven going into the half. The second half saw "Team Yellow" come close at the start but "Team Green" held them off and eventually took control finishing the game with a 28-7 victory to take the title of Snow Bowl Champions.

The champions were awarded a championship trophy at the half time of the SLC men's basketball game, while all participants received a pizza party from event sponsor, Boston Pizza.

Championship "Team Green", consisting of Michael Clark, Mark Kerr, Ryan Canon, Cory Clooney, Gabe Medford, Artel Costa, Brad Kings, Kurtis Jackson, and Dustin Terry was also awarded a Grand Prize of the "Best Seats in the House" at Boston Pizza on Gardiners Road for the UFC 109 PPV, along with over $130 of food, all courtesy of Boston Pizza.

"The whole day was a blast but the "Grand Prize" was unbelievable" stated Mark Kerr, a member of the champions "Team Green."

"The Athletic department did an amazing job, everyone was upbeat and the entire day ran perfectly, I can't wait for the next one." Kerr continued

Everyone who took part left with a smile on their face and some left with more than that as random prizes were given out including gift cards, Olympic Wear, and an IPod.

Kendra Hunter, St. Lawrence College Athletic & Student Life Officer, developed this concept along with Boston Pizza and was thrilled at the end result.

"It was a great success! Despite the very cold weather everyone who participated came out with an abundance of enthusiasm.”

"I don't think we could have asked for things to run any smoother or for a better group of participants." continued Hunter.

"It was refreshing to see so many students taking part and the positive feedback from the teams made being out in the cold totally worth it."

SLC would like to thank Boston Pizza for coming on board and sponsoring what promises to become an annual event. A big thank you also goes out to all the volunteers and students who participated and made the day such a success.
