Riverdogs capture first victory at Fleming
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (February 22, 2010) – The St. Lawrence College (SLC)Brockville men's hockey team captured their first win of the season at the Fleming College Invitational Friday afternoon.

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (February 22, 2010) – The St. Lawrence College (SLC) Brockville men's hockey team captured their first win of the season at the Fleming College Invitational Friday afternoon.
Although it wasn't enough to advance the Riverdogs to the finals, the first victory of their season was a hard fought team effort and the only win that St Lawrence College claimed between the three campuses throughout the tournament.
Brockville opened the tournament against host Fleming College 1 team after a tough battle, the Riverdogs dropped their opener 3-0. Continuing to run up against tough opponents, the Riverdogs squared off against the Sheridan Bruins in their next game.
In a close battle, the Riverdogs took on the Bruins, who narrowly lost in the A Division semi finals of the Riverdogs host tournament. After the first period the Riverdogs were down 2-1 after a goal from #Scott Urquhart# of Kemptville, Ont. but managed to come back and tie it up in the second with a goal from #Brent Maxwell# of Ingleside, Ont. Despite a third period goal from #Mark Van Zyl# of Kemptville, Ont, the Bruins took the game with a score of 6-3.
With one game remaining Brockville was not giving up as they went up against Fleming College (Team 2) to finish off the tournament. The team of Urquhart, Van Zyl, and Maxwell produced once again
The score was 1-0 at the end of the first period but Fleming came back in the second to tie it up with their first goal of the tournament. With 2.50 minutes remaining in the third, Maxwell scored from the blue line to give the team the lead they needed.
Van Zyl followed suit with the third goal of the game to solidify the win for the Riverdogs with only 1.14 minutes remaining.
Strong goaltending from #Cody Harris# kept the Riverdogs in the lead. An open net goal from #Jamie Robinson# of Newmarket, Ont. was the icing on the cake as the Riverdogs claimed their victory with a final score of 4-1.
