KINGSTON, Ont. (February 8, 2010) – St. Lawrence College (SLC) intercampus rivals faced off in an exhibition men’s hockey game over the weekend, as SLC Kingston played host to SLC Brockville.
Both campuses started off strong in a quick back and forth contest. The goalies for each team played extremely hard, but it was the Vikings who took the early 3-2 lead after the first period, with goals from Andrew Halliday, Dave Hammerman, and Lenny Horst.
Kingston took this momentum into the second period, scoring five goals off the sticks of Hendy Robinson, Kyle Whiteford, Halliday, and Horst. Brockville answered with a pair of their own to tie the game up at 4-4 before Kingston quickly regained the lead once again.
Heading into the third just one goal back, the Riverdogs went out hard, but could not find the net in the final period. This opened the door for the Vikings to run away with the game.
The Vikings went on to score eight unanswered goals to take the final 12-4. Halliday finished with a total of seven points (four goals and three assists) while Horst and Robinson both finished with a hat-trick each.
In addition to the victory, the Vikings also received the news that they had moved up in the Power Rankings from 20th to 12th, with their second place finish at the Seneca tournament January 22nd, 2010..
Practice will continue this week as they prepare for their upcoming tournament at Fleming College on February 19th, where they hope to gain access to the Challenge Cup at the end of the season. For full Power Rankings please visit: http://extramuralhockey.blogspot.com
