TORONTO, Ont. (March 22, 2010) – Not since the 1982-83 season has the St. Lawrence College (SLC) Kingston Campus tasted success in women's hockey, but this year the women's extramural team have reason to celebrate, taking the Seneca Invitational Tournament crown.

In their first year back since a lengthy hiatus from extramural play, the Vikings women's hockey team completed a near perfect tournament out-scoring their opponents 9-2 in four games and recording three shutouts along the way.

Heading into the championship against their inter-campus rivals, the Cornwall Sharks, who were also 3-0 in the tournament, the Vikings looked to be the clear underdogs playing with just nine skaters.

Great defensive performances by every player, and stellar goaltending from Jessica Allison who recorded her second shutout of the tournament despite playing with the flu, the Vikings were able to capture the title with a 2-0 victory.

Richelle Moore and Rhea Molenaar scored the two goals for the Vikings. It was Molennaar's second of the tournament while Moore netted her third.

Moore and Molenaar also got on the score sheet in the Vikings semi-final match-up against Conestoga as did Brittany Nolan, who scored twice to advance the Vikings to the finals with a 4-2 win.

Nolan, who was held off the score sheet in the finals, was a key factor in the Vikings success earlier on, finishing with a team high six goals including a hat-trick in their 4-0 victory over the host Seneca Sting to open the tournament.

Nolan was also the hero in the Vikings second game netting the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over the University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus). Tiffany Nolan also had a solid game for the Vikings against U of T, recording the shutout.

Head Coach Diana Drury commented on the teams overall performance at the tournament following the victory.

“We played with a short bench all day, I am so proud of them,” stated Drury.

“I knew they were bruised, battered, and tired from playing four games in one day, but the girls never gave up and were rewarded for their efforts.”
