INTRAMURAL RULES & REGULATIONS
2009-2010

Standards of Conduct

Students and spectators who participate in intramural competition are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship and standards of behaviour. "Good Sportsmanship" means both the understanding and practice of the rules of the game, respect for persons on the opposing team, respect for game officials, supervisors, and for all in attendance, and maintaining a positive attitude. The success of the Intramural Program depends upon the cooperation of competitors in following the rules of the game, abiding by the rulings of the officials and supervising the behaviour of spectators. Competitors who cannot demonstrate such cooperation jeopardize not only their own eligibility, but that of their team in current and future competitions.

Inappropriate Behaviour

The following will NOT be tolerated prior to, during, or following, competition:
Harassment or intimidation of a player or an official.
Any threat or verbal abuse to intimidate a player or an official.
Physical force, shoving, punching, swinging at, and intentional harm during or following play.
Failure to comply with the directions of officials and/or the sport manager.

Fighting

**There is ZERO TOLLERANCE to fighting in all leagues. Any fight results in an immediate ejection from all intramurals for that player for a minimum 1 year.

Please note: if a player is ejected from any Campus Recreation event held in the St. Lawrence College Gym or any other facility being used by Campus Recreation, they must leave the athletic facility immediately.

Team Name Policy

At St. Lawrence College, we respect the rights of all students, staff and faculty to learn, work and recreate in an environment free of discrimination and harassment. We ask that you keep this in mind when selecting a name for your intramural team. We reserve the right to require teams to change a team name if the team name is deemed inappropriate. A team name is “inappropriate” if it does not conform to established standards of behaviour or manners. A team name that promotes intolerance, degrades a race, ethnic or gender group, infers an explicit sexual reference, or promotes destructive behaviour associated with drugs or alcohol will be considered disrespectful to those in the College environment and will be deemed inappropriate. Making the decision as to whether or not a team name is inappropriate is the shared responsibility of the Athletic Director and the Athletic & Student Life Officer.

Alcohol and Drug Policy

At no time should an individual participate in a Campus Recreation Intramural event if they are under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs. Consumption of alcohol by coaches, active players, bench players and spectators is prohibited. Teams are responsible for their supporting spectators. If a player is found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs (discretion of the official(s) on duty), Campus Recreation reserves the right to ask the player in question to leave the contest. If the player refuses to leave the contest, Campus Security will be called and the player will be escorted off the campus. That player may be assessed a 1 year suspension. If the player in question does not comply, that team will be assessed a game forfeit and the contest will not continue. The team will lose half their Bond Fee and the captain must make an appointment with the Athletic & Student Life Officer before their next scheduled game. Failure to do so will result in the team's removal from the league.

Facility and Equipment Damage

Any player who deliberately damages facilities or equipment will be billed for the damages. No grades or transcripts will be released nor will registration be allowed until said bill is paid. Participants will also be suspended from the St. Lawrence Gym as well as all Campus Recreation programs for a minimum of one year. This includes damage to any other facility in which a campus Recreation activity occurs.

Athletes of the Month

Throughout the intramural season, on the last Friday of every month, a Male and Female Intramural Athlete of the Month will be chosen. Each team will submit their suggestion to the Athletic & Student Life Officer by 10am Friday morning. The Athletic & Student Life Officer will then make the final decision. The Athlete’s picture will be taken and inserted into the Tri-Campus Intramural Athlete of the Month Template. Male and Female Intramural Athlete of the Month will be publicized through various internal sources.

Each Intramural Athlete of the Month will also receive a prize donated by one of our sponsors, Primetime Sports.
